Heinricy's Mosport Double-Down:
"Torvec-Phoenix Chevrolet Corvette wins two SCCA World Challenge shows" John Heinricy achieved the best-possible result in a rare opportunity to win two races on a single weekend, driving the Torvec-Phoenix Chevrolet Corvette C5 to a win in the second of two SCCA World Challenge series races held on Canada’s Victoria Day weekend at Ontario’s famed Mosport International Raceway circuit, east of Toronto. GM's nonpareil racing engineer, John Heinricy, is putting the pizzazz back in the company’s performance cars. ![]() Head back, one outstretched arm draped over the steering wheel and the other cradling the shift lever, John Heimicy looks perfectly at home behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette Z51. And why not? Between his duties as head honcho of General Motors’ High Performance Vehicle Operations and his second career as a world-class race car driver, he’s probably got more quality seat time in Corvettes than anybody since patron saint Zora Arkus-Duntov. And as he heads home from GM’s Milford Proving Ground near Detroit, he instinctively uses the prodigious torque of the LS2... << READ MORE >> November 2007 • AutoWeek: "Return to the Heartland-Park"
The SCCA caps the season with its annual Runoffs - Heinricy would win the race. ![]() In most ways, the 44th Annual Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs was the typical, semifrantic thrash it always is, hosting racers from across North America at one central location. But the 2007 Runoffs was a bellwether for the future of the SCCA's club racing program. This was the second year at a new and much-criticized venue. Background: The SCCA moved its Runoffs from Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas last year. To some, the move seemed a matter of convenience for the SCCA, which has its national offices a... << READ MORE >> November 2007 • AutoWeek: "General Motors Performance Division"
The Chevrolet HHR SS Special Report - The state of peroformance Building performance cars is hardly new to General Motors, but having a dedicated performance arm is a recent phenomenon. In its short history, starting in 2002, GM Performance Division can claim fairly healthy success. From its inaugural Cadillac CTS V-Series in 2004, GMPD offerings have expanded to include everything from the luxury Cadillac STS-V to the economical Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged and HHR SS to the trail-ready Hummer H3 Alpha. With a wide-ranging lineup and more hot performance vehicles on the way, GMPD chief engineer John Heinricy says... |
